Once a year, the Eifel region goes crazy: The ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring They transform the Green Hell into a motorsport festival on a massive scale. Tens of thousands of fans, camping in the Eifel forests, celebrate a rustic mega-party in the spirit of motorsport – and right next door, countless thrilling duels take place, where world stars and up-and-coming drivers, privateers and seasoned professionals clash. And of course, the stage for this spectacle is unique in itself: the most beautiful and longest racetrack in the world – the 25.378 km long Nürburgring Nordschleife.
It's only logical that this unique situation produces legendary races – as was the case with the 53rd edition of this classic. An hour after the start, a power outage in the area of race control and the pit lane caused a one-hour forced break – and treated spectators to a second start phase with all its thrilling moments. A dramatic chase ensued, repeatedly taking out cars from the leading group, before the pole-sitter Manthey-Porsche and the Rowe Racing BMW finally found themselves locked in a direct duel for first place. The duel was ultimately decided by a time penalty for the "Grello" following a collision: penalty for Manthey, victory for Rowe.
This dramatic and hotly debated outcome of the race is also detailed in the official 24-hour yearbook – and many, many more facets of this fantastic race are brought to life once again.
